This activity supports the lunar-phases component of MS-ESS1-1 by having

students develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system.

Removable, temporary fabric stickers for drawing or printing, as needed

Additional Materials:

• Black or dark-colored fabric strips/pieces (approximately 20 x 30 cm) to serve as the "night
• sky" background; these can be attached to a wall or tabletop, or made into wearable
• sleeves/bands
• White/yellow circular stickers or small paper pieces to represent the Sun and Earth
• Markers and colored pencils
• Scissors and clear tape
• Moon phase reference chart (provided by the teacher)
